The Bird is the Word
I loved writing THIS history of the Valley birdhouse ranch fairytale cottages of mid-century builder William Mellenthin for Ventura Blvd. Magazine. The charm is REAL!

Ever drive around Los Angeles, notice a name you’ve seen a million times before, and wonder, “who the hell WAS that?” In THIS, my latest for Los Angeles Magazine, I supply you with a few answers, ripped from the LA history books.
Hi Darlings!

I will be leading multiple dates of THIS, the always popular Cartwheel Art Underground LA tour, this summer.
I will be leading THIS Atlas Obscura tour of The Lost Graveyards of Los Angeles on July 22nd.
I will be leading THIS Atlas Obscura tour of the Gold Coast of Santa Monica on August 5th.
I am really proud of THIS story for Los Angeles Magazine. I learned about the brutal kidnapping and murder of schoolgirl Dorothy Lee Gordon a few months ago and quickly became obsessed. It was just a throwaway line in a book about Black Hollywood, but through research I uncovered the tragic tale of an unsolved crime that gripped Los Angeles and is now truly lost to the past.
I loved writing THIS story for Atlas Obscura about the mysterious “reserve heads” of ancient Egypt. What in the hell were they for?!?
I absolutely loved writing THIS article for GOOD, about the history of the delightful sanctuary cats of Rome I discovered while visiting Ms. Bess Kelly. Happy Friday indeed!
Join me and Atlas Obscura on June 23rd for THIS, as we tour Evergreen Cemetery, my favorite graveyard in Los Angeles.
In THIS, my latest for Los Angeles Magazine, some the best places in LA to soak up some regional history-and get a tan at the same time!
Honored to be included in THIS, the 2018 edition of DTLA Book telling the story of Winnie Ruth Judd, "the trunk murderess." My Atlas Obscura colleague and friend Sandi Hemmerlein is featured as well, recounting the history of the secret Los Angeles Underground. Even more exciting- the original illustrations are dope!
Hi friends! I am so, so excited about THIS! Join me on May 12 for the first Cartwheel Art Paranormal Vice Tour! Curated and led by yours truly, this immersive walking exploration of downtown Los Angeles is going to be a ghoulishly grim good time. We will discuss the seedy history of Los Angeles, grab a couple drinks, and tell some ghost stories as the sun sets on the city of sunshine. Hope to see you there!
THIS, my latest for Curbed LA, was an absolute labor of love. It is a brief history of the fascinating, funny and largely forgotten Loren Miller, the LA lawyer who helped shatter racially restrictive covenants, wrote most of the briefs for Brown v. Board of Education and went to Russia with Langston Hughes to make a movie that never happened- the story of the trip alone is worthy of about five Oscar nominated films
